The Design Process

Creating Solutions For Your Space

The Scarlett Interiors team members are trained to be active listeners so that clients will be satisfied with our work from the very beginning. We believe that a crucial part of any design process is the initial design brainstorm between the client and the designer. We are here to listen to our clients wants and needs, and transform them into truly beautiful works of art.

The emphasis on consultation and deliberation at Scarlett Interiors helps us ensure quality work and efficient time and budget management. Our team of talented design experts sit down with each of our clients to form a collaborative list of interior design ideas. We then transform what is on paper into reality, making sure to work closely together with our client throughout the process.

Design Process: Our Process

Programming

The initial process starts by defining the projects in very general terms. Here we define the nature of the project, location, the purpose of the space and the extent of the design work.

The research process begins with the identification of the users - from principal occupants to guests and friends. This stage involves interviews with the client and other end users, surveys, inventories and wider research.

Concept Development

Once the Design Programme Document is approved, the concept development phase begins.  The initial ‘ideation’ stage involves brainstorming design solutions (verbal, sketched or written) before filtering out unworkable ideas and refining the workable ones until one or more main design concepts emerge.

Presentation

Few design concepts are presented to the client in the form of a proposal, for review, feedback and approval. This mostly includes the design concept statement and supporting conceptual drawings, scaled floor plans with furniture placement, mood boards, color schemes, reference for materials and finishes and other things depending on the scale of the project.

Design and Documentation

This process might also be called as Construction Drawings. These may include perspective drawings, site plans, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, electric plans, sections, elevations and detailed drawings for architectural elements, like doors and windows and interior design elements, like paint, trims, wall coverings and window treatments, along with 3D renders and drawing notes necessary for construction and installation of the design.

Execution

Once the final design is approved and every detailed drawing is double checked, the execution phase marks the realization of the design. The designer prepares a detailed schedule of works, choreographing construction, installations and finishing in their proper sequence.
All materials, furnishings and accessories are ordered.
The designer makes regular site visits to coordinate with the progress of the site and inspect the quality of the workmanship.

Evaluation

This is an important final step in our design process. The designer in the step follows up after completion of the project to measure the success of the design. This involves a questionnaire, interview and walk-through inspection with the client. If needed the designers make adjustments and revisions to improve the results. This process is also done to increase professional knowledge for future projects.
